Night Run
- Location
- A28 Nijkerk
- Client
- Amber & Morris
Some photographs are captured in a fraction of a second. These images took thirty.
Created alongside the A28 near Nijkerk, this night shoot brought together three motorcycles with distinctly different personalities: Morris' Honda CBR600RR, Amber's Honda CB500F and my own Yamaha R6 Black Raven. Surrounded by darkness and the constant movement of passing traffic, the location provided the perfect backdrop for a project built around light, patience and precision.
Rather than relying on conventional lighting, each image was created using long-exposure photography and carefully executed lightpainting techniques. During exposures lasting up to thirty seconds, every motorcycle was manually illuminated to reveal details, contours and textures that would otherwise remain hidden in the dark.
The challenge was not only technical but environmental. Working just metres away from a busy motorway required careful planning and timing. While headlights and taillights streamed through the background, the motorcycles remained perfectly still, becoming the centrepiece of a scene that balanced motion and stillness.
Each motorcycle brought its own character to the project. The aggressive lines of the Honda CBR600RR, the minimalist styling of the Honda CB500F and the dark, unmistakable presence of the Yamaha R6 Black Raven created a striking contrast. Despite their differences, all three machines shared the same stage beneath the glow of artificial light and the energy of the night.
The result is a series of photographs that capture more than motorcycles alone. They capture the atmosphere of riding after dark, the dedication behind the creative process and the unique relationship between machine, light and environment.
A moment beside the motorway. Thirty seconds at a time.
